Had a brilliant 3 night stay . The area is lovely and surrounded on all sides by woods. The open camp fire was wonderful no point in camping without a real fire to cook and relax in front of. Although the trek to the site is quite a challenge it was worth it as you are not disturbed at any point by cars or their headlights. Be prepared, this is wild camping! The toilets and fresh water were good but basic with no showers and the farm shop sells only limited items. So make sure that you have enough of the general supplies.Would we go back? Just as soon as we can click the button again and our legs stop aching. Thank You to all at Dernwood Farm!

We had a 2 night stay a few days ago. We are already looking at booking again soon before the end of the summer. We can't praise the place highly enough. It's everything we hoped it would be and more.

Thank you Amanda. We invited our daughters their husbands and our grandchildren with us this time. They had never been camping before. We all had a fantastic time sitting by the campfire ! All the children had a great time and we didn't need to worry about the childrens safety. Food brilliant.

Just returned from a two night stay. The only people there at the time, it really felt like getting back to nature (although company may have provided a refreshing break from playing 20 questions). The short walk through the wood takes a little effort but is pleasant and well worth it, especially as it removes cars from the equation entirely and really sets the mood for your little 'wild adventure'. The people who run it are very nice and laid back. We didn't see much of them as it is a working farm but they were very welcoming and informative. Would definitely recommend.

A Big Thank You from us to Dernwood Farm :) Just back from a two night stay, great vibe, super steaks from the farm shop and we managed to fit us in at short notice with no fuss. Lovely pub in near by Chiddingly, which is a good 40ish min walk away over fields. Super site, well priced and v friendly/helpful owners :) Thanks again

Don't want the following to sound gushing - Just being honest... My mate and I intended to do a bit of a camping tour of East Sussex during the past summer (2010) whilst we were working in Brighton (cheap digs!). Dernwood was the third place we tried and we liked it so much we ended up staying for 2 months! The people who run the place are absolutely fantastic, the locally produced food is unbelievable (try one of the rib-eyes with some fresh eggs) and the pub in nearby Chidingley is a real rarity - an absolutely brilliant traditional village pub, with really friendly staff and delicious food. No cars on the camping field is a definite plus - We'd been to another, similar style camp site which allowed cars and it totally ruined the vibe. Honestly cannot say enough good things about this place - We saw badgers, glow worms, deer; all whilst sat around a roaring camp fire! If it wasn't for a change in circumstance (I stopped working in Brighton), I'm sure we would still be staying there now. I love camping and will absolutely get back to Dernwood whenever possible.

Lovely un spoilt area of countryside, car free site so no worrying about the kids & cars etc. Wheelbarrow idea from car park is brilliant although walking through the pitch black woods with them full up and a baby is not easy! Owners are great and relaxed.
Campsite has basic facilities and when I mean basic it is a shed with a toilet in it! But it is all kept clean which is more than you can say than some places! Nice gentle walks around the site and a few animals here and there.

Had an absolutely fantastic stay here for 2 nights. Pitches were spread well apart but people were friendly and sociable when you did meet. The toilet is only in a shed, but is well kept and clean. The wood for campfires was easy to find. It is quite a walk to get to the site, but it is definitely worth it, the wheel barrows are ideal. Did not go out around the local area, we went to Hastings on the full day, which only took about 45mins, Eastbourne is even closer.
Don't forget to buy the farms produce too - delicious! Owners very friendly. Wonderful experience.

Just returned from camping at Dernwood Farm. I agree with all the reviews, great campsite for back to nature, wild camping.
I would recommend taking as little as possible, the walk to the campsite is a bit of a trek, especially if you have to do a few trips. The walk to the loo is a bit of a trek too if you are at the other end of the field. If your fit no problems ;-)
Overall a great place to camp and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (if a little worn out)

Amazing. Beautiful. I almost don't want to post a review so it stays the same. Quiet and wonderful. Facilities almost non-existent but that's the beauty of the site, simple and natural as much as possible.
Can't wait to visit again and the children just loved it! Amanda is a great host too. Must buy the farm produce, wonderful and 0 road miles travelled!

Fantastic campsite with proper campfires. No allocated pitches, just find a spot with a fire patch. Priced by the person with no extras for awnings etc.
Spent 4 nights there and had the 8.5 acre field almost to ourselves on 2 nights. They were apparently full on the weekend but there was masses of space and no one pitched closer than 10 to 20 m.
There is a 5 minute walk through the woods from the car to the camping field. We did get the trailer down it but it was boggy and hard going. This is a site where is pays to pare down the excessive equipment.
The owners take a hands off approach and we only saw them once when they were collecting wheelbarrows from the field to take back to the car park. The log pile operates on trust and they ask that you only take one level bread crate per £5. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn't review this policy as one of the big groups at the weekend were letting their children fill up whole wheelbarrows with logs. There were also people taking firewood from the surrounding woodland despite being asked not to do so as it is unsustainable for the ecosystem.
1 flushing toilet in a shed at the bottom of the field. It was not cleaned while we were there but the loo is a bonus on top of the wild camping - we expected it to be the composting type rather than flushing. You need to take you own toilet roll. Next to the toilet is a tap with a short length of hose. Facilities wise that's it but it adds to the charm.
It's worth noting that although the field is surrounded by woodland the wind does whistle up the field and it is not particularly sheltered. There are also power lines going over the bottom part of the field but you only hear a hum when standing underneath them.
Can’t comment on the surrounding area as we just chilled out around the campsite. This is an excellent campsite if you want a taste of wild camping with the bonus of a toilet and safe drinking water. We will definitely be returning.

Excellent site for roughing it - and great to get away from the big tents with TVs and all the fuss.
A good ten mins pushing of wheelbarrows along a muddy path through the dark woods. Not for the faint hearted or those that might want to wash off the mud or sweat! - no washing facilities.
The field is just that - a big field surrounded by woods.
A single loo in a small shed with a hosepipe on a standpipe are the facilities for everyone - easiest to do like the bears in the woods.
We loved it - but we like to get right back to nature.
The surrounding area - well - its 10 mins drive to Horam which has a small shop, Post Office and Chemist. And a chippy.
